Migration and new platform development in the healthcare industry
ConnectYourCare is one of the leading providers of Health Savings Accounts in the United States, delivering consumer-directed health care plans for some of the largest American corporations.
Their platform, in operation since around 2000, handles financial transactions and accounts alongside dedicated modules for administrators, HR professionals at registered employers and the employees who use the benefit. Systems of that age and reach cannot simply be replaced, so the company needed skilled developers to extend the platform, migrate parts of it to newer technologies and modernise how software is delivered, all without disrupting the people relying on it.

Reinforcing an in-house team with skilled developers to maintain and extend modules of a large healthcare platform while migrating parts of it to newer technologies. The work spanned backend, frontend and DevOps, and included configuring a Continuous Integration environment based on GitLab.

ConnectYourCare is one of the leading providers of Health Savings Accounts in the United States, offering consumer-directed health care plans to some of the largest American corporations. Their system supports both internal business processes and customer-facing services, handling financial transactions and accounts alongside dedicated modules for administrators, HR professionals at registered employers, and end users – the corporate employees who actually use the benefit.
Our partner was looking to strengthen their existing IT team with developers who could support migration to newer technologies and continue platform development. Our engineers took responsibility for two modules, one for human resources and one for end users. The platform has been running since roughly 2000, which meant every change had to respect a system that a large user base depends on daily.
Our approach
Our involvement centred on migration and extension in parallel. Microservices needed to be extended and rewritten in newer, better-performing technologies, work that covered both backend and DevOps, and we implemented several larger pieces of functionality within the HR module. Because the workflow itself was designed by our partner’s internal team, our role was focused squarely on the development phase.
Part of the CYC system still runs on the older platform, and there we built practical improvements rather than replacements: an alert and notification mechanism delivering email and SMS to users, data presented in graphs, ergonomic fixes across the site, and adaptation for users with disabilities in line with WCAG. Team size flexed with the needs of the programme, from one to six people covering full-stack Java development, testing and DevOps.
Modernising delivery, not just the code
The most far-reaching contribution was the Continuous Integration environment. We migrated the code repositories from the previous tool and fully configured CI in GitLab for the extended microservice landscape. On a platform of this age and scale, that shifts the constraint on delivery speed – releases become a controlled, repeatable process instead of an event.

An advanced migration to our CPMS system backed by custom development and ongoing maintenance. Migration involved 9000 charging points. A particularly complex aspect was ensuring the integration of the current EMP system, including mobile app users and the OCPI partners already connected.
