Mercedes approved for autonomous, California

The attainment of approval from the California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) marks a significant milestone for Mercedes. Mercedes had previously introduced its Drive Pilot feature in Europe, which successfully obtained regulatory clearance in Germany. Mercedes now extends its success to the state of California. Mercedes Drive Pilot incorporates an advanced suite of LiDAR sensors, long-range radar, and multi-mode radar, intelligently integrating these sensor inputs with data from its array of cameras to bestow the system with comprehensive situational awareness. The California DMV has imposed supplementary limitations on the usage of this technology. Drivers will be precluded from employing the system on urban or county roads, within construction zones, amidst heavy rain or dense fog, on inundated thoroughfares, or during exceptionally inclement weather conditions.
